Braves end Cubs streak at 4
Jun 22, 2009 - 11:48 PM - by Gator
The Braves snapped the Cubs four game winning steak tonight, 2-0, behind the pitching of Javier Vazquez and three relievers. The offense appeared to revert back to old habits of not being able to get the big hit in the clutch, stranding 11 runners on the evening.

The Cubs had plenty of chances consistently putting runners on base with 10 hits and three walks, being shut out with double-digit hits in a nine-inning game for the first time since Aug. 29, 1990, at

No Walk-Off Necessary
Jun 21, 2009 - 9:39 PM - by Gator
The Cubs finally gave the fans a relaxing day beating the Indians 6-2 at Wrigley Field finishing off a three game sweep of the Tribe.

Not nearly as exciting as the previous three days, the Cubs broke open a close game scoring four times in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 6-0 lead. The game was never in doubt the rest of the way as Randy Wells finally won his first game of the year.

Derrek Lee extended his hitting streak to 18 games, Geovany Soto homered... [Read More]

Lou: "We will be in a pennant race" (Video)
Jun 20, 2009 - 2:01 AM - by Gator
Lou has done a good job of keeping his cool IMO. I have seen a lot of people around the web calling for Lou to "blow" up and kick start some fire in these guys.

Well sometimes, if the leader freaks out the troops panic so maybe Lou feels if he remains calm and don't show any panic, the guys won't panic and the talent will eventually prosper.

Cardiac Cubs Rally From 7 Down (Video)
Jun 20, 2009 - 12:05 AM - by Gator
Just when you thought the Cubs couldn't top Thursday's comeback against the cross town hated White Sox, they pulled off an even more improbable comeback on Friday afternoon at the Friendly Confines.

With Rich Harden having another bad outing, the Cubs bats came to life once again the bottom of the eighth inning spurring on another great come back win.

Derrek Lee had a huge day at the plate. D Lee continued to pound the baseball, going 3-for-5 with a double, two... [Read More]

Back 2 Back Jacks Fuel Cubs Rally (Video)
Jun 18, 2009 - 7:47 PM - by Gator
Thursday afternoon there was pandemonium at Wrigley Field after the Cubs rallied from a four run deficit with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning on back to back home runs from Derrek Lee and Geovany Soto. Lee hit a three run shot into the basket in right center, before Soto connected on a 1-1 pitch sending it up into the left center field bleachers to tie the game at 5 apiece.

Reed Johnson then led off the bottom of the ninth as a pinch hitter and singled to center before... [Read More]

Reefer madness! Piniella goes way back to make a drug reference (Yahoo! Sports)
Jun 18, 2009 - 2:03 PM - by Cubs News

Lou Piniella has a lot to worry about with these Chicago Cubs of 2009. Look, the club has endured key injuries, lineup holes and underperformaning stars, and all under the glare of big expectations.
